Baby showers are a tradition that have come over from America and they have become increasingly popular over the past 5 years or so. They are a wonderful way to celebrate the upcoming arrival and give mum to be something to look forward to before they have their hands full with a newborn. So if you have a friend who is expecting then get her friends and family together and throw a baby shower.

A baby shower is a perfect way to start the journey of motherhood and you can either arrange your own baby shower or maybe a close friend or family member will plan the party. You can play games such as guess the size of the bump, put bets on the babies weight, eat delicious food (there is normally plenty of yummy cake) and gifts are given to the expectant mother.

What do you buy as a gift when going to a baby shower? They are plenty of things to choose from so look no further we have some wonderful ideas. Mum and Dad to be will be delighted with gifts such as clothes, blankets, toys, toiletries for their new bundle of joy. They will also be happy to receive practical things like bottles, dummies, muslin’s, nappies and wipes that they are going to need in abundance in the coming weeks. There are plenty of beautiful baby clothes around and you can always get a few sizes up so they don’t end up with too many clothes for the newborn stage. You could fill a hamper with all the essentials such as socks, baby mittens, some bubble bath, baby nail clippers, a cuddly toy, booties etc. Nappy cakes are also a great gift and a bit of a nicer way of giving nappier rather than just a pack of pampers!

You may prefer to get something as a keepsake and something a bit more special so how about a photo frame or a baby trinket box. You could get something for the nursery like a special print to go on the wall.

Also, one last point is you don’t have to just buy for baby as Mum and possibly Dad could be in need of a few gifts too. You could get them flowers or chocolates or a bottle of bubbly to celebrate their little one when they make their arrival. You could even make up a survival hamper for the first weeks of parenthood that can be hard work.
